Lacy Knitted Hat for Blythe dolls – Free pattern
Here is a sweet and easy lacy knitted hat pattern for Blythe dolls. It’s knit in a simple repeating lacy stitch and embellished with a knitted flower on the brim. It can be knitted in a variety of readily available 4ply yarns.
The pattern comes with two versions to choose from: the snug fit pictured here and a more loose version for the fuller haired Blythe doll (eg mohair/alpaca scalps).
Materials
- One x 50g ball of 4ply yarn in colour of your choice
- One pair of 3mm knitting needles
- One pair of 4mm knitting needles
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

The hat is knit flat in one piece with a back seam
Instructions – Lacy Knitted Hat for Blythe dolls
Lace Pattern (multiple of 3 plus 2):
Row 1: k3, *yo, k2tog, k1; rep from * to last two stitches, k2
Row 2, 4, 6: k1, p to last st, k1
Row 3: *k1, yo, k2tog; rep from * to last two stitches, k2
Row 5: k2, *yo, k2tog, k1; rep from * to end.
Snug version (pictured)
Cast on 62 sts with 3mm needles.
Rows 1, 3, 5: k2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end
Row 2, 4, 6: p2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end
Row 7: k to end
Change to 4mm needles.
Row 8: k to end.
Then work the Lace Pattern above until work measures 9cm from the cast on row, finishing
on an even row (I worked the Lace Pattern three times).
Shaping
Row 1: k2tog to end
Row 2: p2tog to last st, p1
Row 3: k2tog to end.
Cut a long tail, and thread it through the remaining stitches twice using the tapestry needle.
Sew back seam and weave in ends.
Loose version (for fuller haired dolls)
Cast on 64 sts with 3mm needles.
Rows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6: k2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end
Row 7: k2, *m1, k2; rep from * to end (you should end up with 95sts)
Change to 4mm needles.
Row 8: k to end.
Then work the Lace Pattern above until work measures 9cm from the cast on row, finishing
on an even row (I worked the Lace Pattern three times).
Shaping
Row 1: k2tog to last st, k1
Row 2: p2tog to end
Row 3: k2tog to end.
Cut a long tail, and thread it through the remaining stitches twice using the tapestry needle.
Sew back seam and weave in ends.
Flower embellishment
CO 37sts with 3mm needles.
Row 1: p
Row 2: k2, *k1, slip this stitch back to LH needle then lift the next four stitches over it and
off needles one at a time, yo twice, then knit the first stitch again, k2; rep from * to end
Row 3: k1, *p2tog, drop one of the yo loops, (k1, p1) twice in the remaining yo, p1; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 4: k
Row 5: k2tog to end
Row 6: k2tog to end.
Cut a long tail, and thread it through the remaining stitches twice using the tapestry needle.
Sew flower seam together and weave in ends. Attach to hat brim using the same yarn.
Blocking
I didn’t need to block my hat but if you want to, immerse it in cold water and squeeze
gently. Then block over a short tumbler glass and let dry.

Abbreviations
BO = Bind off. Knit two stitches as normal and lift the first stitch over the second. Continue
until only one stitch remains on the RH needle. Cut thread and slip through remaining stitch.
CO = Cast on
K = Knit
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
M1 = Make one stitch. Pick up a strand of yarn from the work inbetween the LH and RH
needles (pick it up from front to back) and knit into the back of the stitch loop.
P = Purl
P2tog = purl 2 stitches together
YO = Wrap the yarn over the RH needle
